Where and When: The Wyoming Council for Women’s Issues (WCWI) will present the 2006 Summit Award to the Carbon County Higher Education Kid’s Campus Child Care Center during a luncheon at the at the Annual Wyoming Forum on November 17. The luncheon will start at 12:15 p.m. at the Parkway Plaza in Casper.
About the Award: The Summit Award recognizes those businesses that have successfully instituted programs or policies that broaden, strengthen, and support their workforce. The award is given annually with nominations opening on January 1 and closing on July 31 of each year.
The award is sponsored by the Wyoming Council for Women’s Issues in partnership with the Wyoming Business Alliance/Wyoming Heritage Foundation, the Wyoming Department of Family Services, the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services, and the Wyoming Business Council.
About the Winner: The Kid’s Campus is a collaborative child care effort between the Carbon County Higher Education Center and Wyoming Department of Corrections. It serves the children of the Wyoming Department of Corrections staff and Carbon County Higher Education Center’s student populations. The children are cared for by educated providers in an unsurpassed learning environment.
With the opening of the Kid’s Campus, 14 new jobs were created that are paid salaries and hourly wages that meet the county’s self sufficiency wage standards. Non-traditional hours of operation, from 5:30 am – 10:30 pm, serve the needs of many parents at the Wyoming Department of Corrections.
The Kid’s Campus will allow parents from the Carbon County Higher Education Center and Wyoming Department of Corrections to reach their educational goals, maintain gainful employment, and attain self-sufficiency for themselves and their families.
The first Wyoming Summit Award was awarded in 2005 to Edeen Homes in Cheyenne.
The WCWI is a 13-member council with representation from each of the nine Judicial Districts in addition to four at-large members and one ex-officio member from the Wyoming Business Council. The WCWI is a Governor appointed council. Visit www.wyomingwomenscouncil.org.
