WCWI seeks exhibitors and workshop hosts for non traditional job fair
CHEYENNE - The Wyoming Council for Women’s Issues (WCWI) is looking for exhibitors and workshop hosts for the first Non Traditional Job Fair for Wyoming female students grades 9-12 on October 24 at Casper College in Casper.
Each exhibitor will be given an opportunity to have a display and to offer workshops to the participants. There is no fee to participate; however, the WCWI asks that exhibitors and/or workshop hosts provide two door prizes from each company or agency for the student attendees. Registrations are due no later than September 15.
“The Wyoming Council for Women's Issues is hosting this first-ever statewide event to help our young women see that there are jobs in Wyoming that can and do pay well for women; they just may not be those you would normally associate with women,” said Michelle Aldrich, WCWI member.
Women in Wyoming experience one of the largest wage gaps in the United States. In 2003, the WCWI and the University of Wyoming College of Business conducted a wage disparity study for the Wyoming State Legislature listing ideas for narrowing the gap. Among the ideas for narrowing the wage disparity was encouraging women to seek employment in non traditional career fields, especially in the areas of math and science.
For additional information on the job fair or to request a registration form, contact Dr. Michelle D. Aldrich at teachwyo@yahoo.com or Jan Torres at jtorres@wwcc.cc.wy.us. Visit the WCWI web site, www.wyomingwomenscouncil.org for more information.
The WCWI is a 13-member council with representation from each of the nine Judicial Districts in addition to four at-large members and one ex-officio member of the Wyoming Business Council. The WCWI is a Governor appointed council.
