Casper woman named 2006 Wyoming Woman of Distinction

CASPER - The Wyoming Council for Women’s Issues (WCWI) will present the 2006 Wyoming Woman of Distinction Award to Ann Robinson of Casper during a luncheon at the Petroleum Club on October 20.

The “once in a lifetime” Wyoming Woman of Distinction Award celebrates those who have had a significant impact on women and families in Wyoming with regard to education, community, health and legal issues.

Robinson has devoted much of her time to public service activities that have had an impact on Wyoming women, children and families. For the past 10 years, she has served as a Representative of the Wyoming State Legislature from Natrona County. She has sponsored legislation that improves child protection, childcare, early childhood education and education for disabled children. In addition to helping children, Robinson helped sponsor legislation for fair labor standards, fair insurance practices and workers compensation; and led the “Axe the Tax on Food” effort which removed sales tax from food in 2006. In the Legislature, she serves on the Judiciary Committee, Management Council and Rules Committee.

Besides her work in the Wyoming Legislature, Robinson also serves on numerous state and local boards. The committees and boards she serves on include the Welfare and Human Services Committee for the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL), Women’s Advisory Council for NCSL, Children’s Justice Project Advisory Council, Child Development Center of Natrona County Board of Directors, Wyoming Early Childhood Association Board of Directors and Wyoming Children’s Action Alliance Board of Directors. She has been a chairman of the Rocky Mountain Regional Fiddler’s Contest for the past 15 years.

Ann Robinson grew up in Thermopolis and graduated from Riverton High School in 1966. She earned an AAS degree in petroleum technology and an AA degree in paralegal from Casper College. She is a confidential adoption intermediary, appointed by the court to reunite people who have been separated by adoption. Robinson has reunited hundreds of people with their biological family members. One of her cases was the subject of a television segment on “48 Hours.”

She married Marvin Robinson in 1965 and they have two daughters and three grandchildren.

The WCWI is a 13-member council with representation from each of the nine Judicial Districts in addition to four at-large members and one ex-officio member from the Wyoming Business Council. The WCWI is a Governor appointed council. Visit www.wyomingwomenscouncil.org.
