MEDIA ADVISORY: WCWI to host first nontraditional job fair for Wyoming girls in Casper

Where and When: The Wyoming Council for Women’s Issues (WCWI) will host the first Non Traditional Job Fair for Wyoming female students grades 9-12 starting at 8:30 a.m. on October 24 at Casper College in Casper.

About the Job Fair: The job fair is free and open to all 9-12 grade girls in Wyoming. The purpose of the event is to help young Wyoming women see that jobs exist in this state that they can do and that can pay well. Traditionally many of these jobs are not ones that are associated with women.

Women in Wyoming experience one of the largest wage gaps in the United States. In 2003, the WCWI and the University of Wyoming College of Business conducted a wage disparity study for the Wyoming State Legislature listing ideas for narrowing the gap. Among the ideas for narrowing the wage disparity was encouraging women to seek employment in non traditional career fields, especially in the areas of math and science.
